La blackout poetry è una forma di poesia visiva che si crea “cancellando” parte di un testo già esistente (giornale, pagina di libro, ecc.) e lasciando visibili solo alcune parole, che così formano una nuova poesia.
Di solito si usa un pennarello nero per oscurare le parole che non servono, trasformando la pagina in un’immagine: il testo rimasto e le zone annerite insieme diventano sia poesia che oggetto grafico/artistico.
“Creare cancellando parte di ciò che già esiste — una pagina di giornale o di libro, una brochure, un flyer, persino un semplice scontrino — diventa così un gesto poetico: un metodo semplice, creativo e sostenibile che aggira la sindrome della pagina bianca.” Scrive Laura Ballico.

La partecipazione alla mostra e agli eventi è gratuita con tessera associativa.
Organizzata dall’ associazione 18:18, la mostra e gli eventi collaterali confermano la vocazione dello spazio come luogo indipendente dedicato all’arte, alla ricerca e alla sperimentazione contemporanea. Lo spazio in via Frausin 3b si propone come ambiente vivo e in costante evoluzione, capace di accogliere linguaggi diversi e di promuovere la collaborazione tra artisti e comunità.

L’artista
Laura Ballico, originaria di Vicenza, studia tra Trieste e Montpellier prima di stabilirsi nel capoluogo giuliano, dove lavora come bibliotecaria.
Dopo aver esplorato diverse forme espressive, scopre la blackout poetry grazie ad artisti come Tina Festa, Tom Phillips ed Emilio Isgrò. Nel 2023 visita la mostra personale di quest’ultimo all’M77 di Milano e resta colpita dal coraggio dell’artista, capace di intervenire cancellando opere capitali come la Divina Commedia, l’Ulisse e Moby Dick, ma anche carte geografiche e mappamondi, guidando il pubblico in un viaggio che al contempo interroga il senso dell’esistenza umana e restituisce la soggettività dell’artista.

Blackout poetry is a form of visual poetry created by “erasing” parts of an existing text (a newspaper, a book page, etc.) and leaving only a few selected words visible, which together form a new poem.
Usually a black marker is used to cover the words that are not needed, turning the page into an image: the remaining text and the blacked-out areas together become both a poem and a graphic/artistic object.
“Creating by erasing part of what already exists — a newspaper or book page, a brochure, a flyer, even a simple receipt — thus becomes a poetic gesture: a simple, creative and sustainable method that bypasses the fear of the blank page,” writes Laura Ballico.

Participation in the exhibition and events is free of charge with membership card.
Organised by Associazione 18:18, the exhibition and its collateral events confirm the vocation of the space as an independent venue dedicated to art, research and contemporary experimentation. The space in via Frausin 3B positions itself as a living, constantly evolving environment, capable of welcoming different languages and fostering collaboration between artists and the community.

The artist
Laura Ballico, originally from Vicenza, studied between Trieste and Montpellier before settling in Trieste, where she works as a librarian.
After exploring different forms of expression, she discovered blackout poetry thanks to artists such as Tina Festa, Tom Phillips and Emilio Isgrò. In 2023 she visited Isgrò’s solo exhibition at M77 in Milan and was struck by the boldness of an artist capable of intervening by erasing seminal works such as the Divine Comedy, Ulysses and Moby Dick, as well as maps and globes. Through these radical gestures, he guides the audience on a journey that both questions the meaning of human existence and restores the centrality of the artist’s own subjectivity.
